Locking Nut & tool

Introduction

An optics experiment generally involves optical elements which must be mounted to an optic table. Traditionally, the solution for mounting is a lattice of threaded holes into which elements are fastened. The K-Optics modular optic table houses threaded openings via locking nuts, which are placed as required in the lattice of sockets lining the top of the table.

These threaded locking nuts are placed in their corresponding sockets by a corresponding M6 / ¼” tool (sold separately). In contrast to the traditional setup, these different threaded nuts can be used simultaneously for even greater flexibility while setting up experiments. Locking nuts are threaded fixtures to which forks and integral bases attach. These nuts, and the corresponding tools are injection molded at K-Optics from engineering-grade polymers.

Working Principle

Attachment to the K-Optics modular optic table is done by application of pressure with connection apparatuses. The first mounting option is an integral base tightened down by a plastic head screw fastened to an appropriately placed locking nut. The other mounting option is using a fork to clamp down on a circular base which rests on a spacer.
