Reflection

Maybe the most familiar out of all wave behaviors is the phenomenon of reflection. Every one at one point in his \ her life peered into his own image through a mirror. While reflection is fairly simple to understand in terms of its macroscopic manifestation, the microscopic mechanism responsible for its occurance is somewhat involved and we will present it in very broad strokes.

Light reflection is a specular reflection in which the angle of incidence and angle of reflection are equal (as can be seen in the picture above where both angles are 50 degrees).

Reflected light has a phase difference corresponding to half a wavelength.
